About the role

Reporting directly into the Head of Product, we are seeking an experienced AI Engineer specializing in generative AI tools to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing and optimizing ZYA, Erthos' AI platform that drives our formulation discovery process. Your key responsibilities will include managing and expanding our tech stack, integrating cutting-edge AI engines and tools, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to apply machine learning techniques for extracting valuable insights. As a member of our development team, you will design and implement advanced algorithms through rapid prototyping and will leverage your solid background and hands-on experience in deep learning and machine learning, to build robust solutions that push the boundaries of innovation.

In this role you will be responsible for the following key areas:

• Platform Innovation and Development:
• Drive innovation by exploring and integrating state-of-the-art AI techniques in the context of material science
• Architect code to make AI that is intelligent, and can provide comprehensive formulations
• Develop core AI and relevant features, components, systems and tools to required industry standards
• Lead engineering projects from concept to deployment, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes

• System Architecture:
• Improve and refine system architecture to support scalable and efficient AI solutions
• Ensure robustness and reliability of the AI infrastructure, addressing any technical challenges that arise

• Capability Enhancement & Optimization:
• Work with erthos’ team of Data Scientists and Computational Scientists to design, implement, and optimize AI algorithms and models to enhance the capabilities of our Generative AI platform, ZYA
• Enhance ZYA’s features and functionality by leveraging interdisciplinary insights and approaches

• Performance and Accuracy:
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation of AI models to ensure high accuracy and performance
• Continuously monitor and refine models to maintain and improve their effectiveness in real-world applications
• Write code in appropriate languages

About you

First things first, let’s make sure you check off some of the basics…

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent training and professional experience
• Established expertise in materials science and chemistry focused areas to better understand the context and nuances of the problems being solved
• 5+ years of development experience, having shipped at least one title as an AI Engineer preferably in a scientific or engineering context
• Highly skilled in programming languages including Python, Julia, R, C++, and MATLAB, with extensive experience in AI/ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and RDKit, and notation systems such as SMILES, InChI, WLN, CML, SLN, etc.
• Proficient in leveraging AWS services like AWS Lambda, SageMaker, Amazon CloudFormation, and CDK for seamless deployment of machine learning models and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes
• Experienced in proposing and implementing cloud architectures, adept at optimizing existing structures to enhance application efficiency and scalability
• Solid understanding of system architecture and Extensive expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, encompassing data modeling, query optimization, and proficient database management
• Proven experience in implementing data encryption, access control, and conducting security audits to meet standards like ISO27001, HIPAA and GDPR.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design
• Experience with deep learning architectures and generative models (e.g., GANs, VAEs) is highly desirable
• Familiarity with data engineering principles and adept at developing and managing data pipelines
• Detailed planning and time-management skills
• Great organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Fluent in English
